Yoga for Emotional Wellbeing and Anxiety Reduction: Exploring the five Yamas
This five-week series will explore the 5 Yamas, the first limb of the 8 Limbs of Yoga as described in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Together, we will delve into the ancient teachings of the Yamas, uncovering how our thoughts profoundly impact our physical and mental well-being.
Each week, we’ll focus on a different Yama, learning how these principles can help us address important aspects of our lives, such as self-talk, the inner critic, truthfulness, presence, overcoming negative thoughts, conserving energy through self-care, and understanding how attachment to old beliefs influences our moods, relationships, and behaviors.
Each class will feature a brief teaching on the Yama of the week, a brief group share, breathwork, guided meditation, and a yoga practice tailored to the theme. All levels of yoga experience are welcome!

Taught by,
Doris Vanderhyde
Doris discovered the transformative power of yoga 25 years ago at a small Kripalu yoga studio in New York City and immediately fell in love with the practice. The profound connection she felt to her body and spirit ignited a deep passion that eventually led to her completing her 200 hour CYT program in 2022. She also completed her 50 hour Yin teacher training last year and is in the process of completing a 30 hour certificate program in Applied Polyvagal Theory in Therapeutic Yoga for Trauma and Recovery with Dr. Arielle Schwartz.
Doris is also a clinical social worker and EMDR therapist specializing in trauma and anxiety. Her background in therapy brings a unique perspective to her yoga teaching, allowing her to create a safe and supportive space for her students to embark on their own paths of self-discovery, healing and empowerment through the practice.
In her classes, Doris will incorporate elements that go beyond the physical asanas. She emphasizes pranayama, meditation and the teachings of yogic philosophy. Through her compassionate guidance students are encouraged to explore the depths of their being, fostering a sense of balance and well-being. With her extensive background as a therapist, Doris creates a safe and nurturing environment for her students to support their practice and growth both on and off the mat.
