Self Therapy: Healing with IFS-Informed Yin Yoga

A journey into compassionate inner connection
Join us for a nourishing and transformative 2.5-hour workshop that weaves together the healing practices of Yin Yoga and Internal Family Systems (IFS) - an evidence-based therapeutic model and a profound paradigm for understanding and harmonizing the mind. This workshop is designed to guide you in developing a personal practice of Self Therapy—one in which you become your own gentle healer, turning inward with curiosity, care, and connection.
Many contemplative traditions speak of a central, compassionate presence within each of us. In Buddhism, this is known as Buddha Nature—our innate wisdom and capacity for presence. In Internal Family Systems (IFS), this inner essence is called the SELF. According to IFS, SELF is the true agent of psychological healing—an ever-present inner resource that guides us with clarity, compassion, and calm when we turn inward and listen.
Yin Yoga, a gentle and meditative practice where floor poses are held passively for several minutes, helps soften the deeper layers of connective tissue while enhancing energetic flow. This quiet practice invites us to slow down, settle the nervous system, and listen deeply. As the body softens, the mind follows—and we open the door to SELF energy and somatic insight.
This extended workshop creates a spacious and supportive container to:
  • Learn and experience the fundamentals of the IFS model
  • Cultivate a felt sense of SELF through the stillness of Yin Yoga
  • Engage in guided inner dialogues with your parts from a place of compassion and curiosity
  • Begin building a sustainable practice of Self-led healing and Self-therapy
Through compassionate listening, healing is possible.
This is a transformational practice of learning to love all parts of ourselves—especially the ones we've pushed away or misunderstood. With time, presence, and compassion, even our most wounded or protective parts can begin to soften and heal. The beginning of healing is relating to our inner life with acceptance, kindness, and compassion - and IFS informed Yin Yoga gives us the tools to access that Self-healing.
This workshop is intended for educational and personal growth purposes only. It is not a substitute for psychotherapy, counseling, or licensed mental health treatment. Mercy B is a yoga teacher and not a licensed therapist. All practices offered are rooted in mindfulness, embodiment, and self-inquiry, and are not meant to diagnose or treat any mental health conditions.

Mercy found yoga in 2000, and soon thereafter met her teacher Sarah Powers, who introduced her to Yin Yoga and Buddhist meditation.  She completed her first teacher training with Powers and Paul Grilley in 2004, and soon after began teaching Yin Yoga at Eight Limbs Yoga on Capitol Hill.  Since then, she has birthed and homeschooled two daughters, moved back and forth across the country, worked in non-profit Community Outreach, all the while maintaining her commitment to Awakening through breath, mind, and body practices, including Ecstatic Dance which she fell in love with along the way.   Mercy continues to immerse herself in yoga and meditation, completing two more teacher trainings with Sarah Powers and becoming a certified mindfulness meditation teacher through the International Mindfulness and Meditation Alliance.  In addition to yoga and meditation, Mercy is an IFS Informed Coach, integrating Yin Yoga, mindfulness meditation, and psychological self-inquiry into her teachings and practice.  www.practiceofmercy.com
