Yin Yoga & Self Healing
Come experience Yin Yoga and Internal Family Systems (IFS), an evidence-based model for psychospiritual healing and a paradigm for understanding and harmonizing the mind. All spiritual traditions agree that everyone has a true self, a spiritual center that is naturally wise and compassionate. Buddhists refer to this as your Buddha nature, in Hinduism this true self is called the Atman, in Taoism the Tao… Whatever it is called, all agree that this spiritual center is always present and available at any moment. Internal Family Systems (IFS) calls this compassionate center the SELF. And according to IFS, SELF is the agent of psychological healing. SELF heals.
In Yin Yoga we hold floor poses for longer periods of time (3-5 minutes), encouraging the deeper layers of connective tissue to soften, thereby enhancing the energy flow within our system and thus allowing us to deeply relax and remain open to authentic insight. When we slow down and listen on the inside, when we relax, observe and allow, the SELF naturally unfolds. Practicing Yin Yoga allows us to access SELF, the place from which the deep healing inner work is possible.
During this 2 hour workshop we will practice Yin Yoga and IFS. The quiet and receptive quality of a Yin practice is a perfect modality to listen and learn about IFS, all the while nourishing our bodies and connecting with our SELF. Then, from this healing place of SELF, we can use IFS practices to explore some of the ways that we limit ourselves, whether it’s with negative self-talk, judgment of ourselves or others, self-doubt, or any of the other ways of relating that cause psychological suffering.
* If you are brand new to Yin Yoga, please consider taking a Yin Yoga class prior to this workshop. Mercy offers Yin Yoga on Tuesday’s 6-7pm at Limber.
** Please bring writing materials for journaling and/or notes.
*** Class will start promptly at 2pm. Please arrive with time to check in and settle.

Mercy (RYT200) found yoga in 2000, and soon thereafter met her teacher Sarah Powers, who introduced her to Yin Yoga and Buddhist meditation. She completed her first teacher training with Powers and Paul Grilley in 2004, and soon after began teaching Yin Yoga at Eight Limbs Yoga on Capitol Hill. Since then, she has birthed and homeschooled two daughters, moved back and forth across the country, worked in non-profit Community Outreach, all the while maintaining her commitment to Awakening through breath, mind, and body practices, including Ecstatic Dance which she fell in love with along the way. Mercy recently completed her second teacher training with Sarah Powers in 2021, and is excited to share the gifts of Yin Yoga and meditation with the Limber community. In addition to yoga and meditation, Mercy practices Internal Family Systems (IFS), a psycho-spiritual therapeutic modality.
